James & I have been busy working and traveling lately, so when we both had a full day off yesterday, J wanted to take a drive in his Le Sabre.  Usually, when he wants to take a ride, we head to Malibu for Malibu Seafood.  I love the ride there because you get great views of the Pacific Ocean, gorgeous houses on the hills, greenery, surfers, blue sky, etc.

Here we are parked in Malibu Seafood’s lot.  Luckily, we had a late start to the day and we missed the lunch rush and found parking with no problem.

Here’s a glimpse of the interior of the car.  It still has the original clock, but it doesn’t work anymore…and yes, that’s Woodstock on his key chain for the key to this car. ;D

Malibu Seafood is located right off the Pacific Coast Highway and you’ll see their sign with a lobster chillin’ on his beach chair right off the road.  You can enter their driveway heading north on the PCH.

To order, enter through the door on the right of their small shack  into their small fresh fish market.

You can purchase fresh filets of a variety of fish.  I haven’t had the chance to purchase their raw fish since we never go straight home after visiting Malibu Seafood.

Malibu Seafood Menu.

After you’ve ordered your food, go look for a table, especially if you’re there during their lunch or dinner rush!  Malibu Seafood has outdoor seating only.  There’s a lower patio section and an upper patio section (to the right in the photo).  They’ve also added another area of seating on the opposite side of the shack!  It’s wonderful because they get so busy that seating can be hard to find.

If you can’t figure out where to go for the upper patio seating, this guy will show you the way.  We’ve seen some people bring table cloths, wine, and wine glasses for a nicer dining experience.

New England Clam Chowder Sourdough Bread Bowl.   J always orders their clam chowder bread bowl.  The clam chowder is thick and meaty and it goes great with the sourdough bread.

Deep Fried Scallops & Fries. J loves, LOVES their deep fried scallops!

Ahi Tuna Burger with Fries.  I usually let J order whenever we go to Malibu Seafood because he loves his deep friend seafood (or deep fried anything for that matter!).  However, I’ve been on a “health kick” and recall that every time he orders all the deep fried seafood, I can’t eat too much of it and don’t feel so great afterwards.  So, I checked out the menu and was debating on trying their ahi tuna burger or fish tacos.  The girl at the cashier recommended the ahi tuna burger over the fish tacos.  Good choice!  I really liked the ahi tuna burger.  It was juicy and flavorful and I was very happy with my meal.  I also like their thick cut fries, but we couldn’t finish both orders.

We’ve been to Malibu Seafood several times over the years.  We’ve had their fried fish sandwich, deep fried shrimp, deep fried calm strips, deep fried fish pieces (see what I’m saying about the deep fried seafood??), etc.  It’s fun to go in a group so that you can try a bit of everything.  Perhaps I’ll try one of their grilled fishes the next time we go.

We didn’t stop off along one of the beaches this time, so I snapped this quick photo as we headed back south to Santa Monica.

If you happen to read this post and plan to go some time this Labor Day weekend, DON’T do it!  As we drove up the PCH, we recalled the 1 time we went on a Sunday or Monday of Labor Day weekend and traffic was horrible!!!  It was pretty much stop-and-go all along the PCH.  If you can, try going on a weekday and definitely not on a holiday weekend.  Enjoy! =D
